This week marks the launch of The Tips, the brand-new Official Golf Betting Podcast of the DP World Tour.
Hosted by Ollie Silverton, the show will preview all the action on the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR as a panel of industry-leading golf tipsters and special guests try to sort the form horses from the long shots.
In the first episode, Ben Coley, Deputy Head of Editorial at Sporting Life.com, golf writer Matt Cooper and golf broadcaster Kit Alexander join Silverton as they look ahead to the DS Automobiles Italian Open and the Wells Fargo Championship Stateside.
This week marks the 80th anniversary of the Italian Open – a staple of the DP World Tour schedule since its inception in 1972 – as the DP World Tour returns to Europe for the first time this season.
With Robert MacIntyre defending his title at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, it is another past champion in Nicolai Højgaard who is being backed for success by Coley.
“I think Nicolai is perfectly suited to this course. He was brilliant off the tee when he won here, beating Tommy Fleetwood and Adrian Meronk.
“I thought his title defence [last year] was really solid. He played with Rory [McIlroy] for the first 36 holes, that is a partnership I would love to see in September [at the Ryder Cup] but he certainly didn’t shirk the challenge there.”
Running in parallel across the Atlantic is the Wells Fargo Championship, a designated event on the PGA TOUR, with two-time winner Max Homa the defending champion.
The American is aiming to become the first player to successfully defend his title, but Alexander believes 2018 champion Jason Day’s form is hard to ignore.
“If you have got a lot of length but that comes with a higher ball flight then I think that suits Quail Hollow really well, he said of the Australian’s game.
“I am just excited by Jason Day. I like watching him play good golf and I really enjoyed when he was World Number One a few years ago.”
