Six months ago Tom Lewis sat outside the top 400 in the world after missing the cut in the Porsche European Open, but following a remarkable run he is now on the cusp of the world’s top 50.
Since failing to make the weekend in Hamburg, the Englishman has won twice – once on the European Tour and once on the Challenge Tour – and recorded a further seven top ten finishes in 15 starts, most recently third at the inaugural Saudi International powered by SBIA.
Lewis is 35 under par for his 12 rounds played this season, carding seven rounds of 68 or lower. An eight under par 62 on Saturday in Saudi Arabia put him in contention again.
Since September, Lewis has five rounds of 63 or less. That's more than anyone in the game.
The meteoric rise has pushed the 28 year old up to a career-high 55th in the Official World Golf Ranking and within touching distance of a place in this year’s Masters Tournament – Lewis needs to break into the top 50 by the end of March to secure a debut appearance at Augusta National.
Following his remarkable showing at the 2011 Open Championship – where as an amateur he shot a five under par 65 to take a share of the first-round lead before going on to win the Silver Medal – many tipped Lewis to go on and excel at the top of the game.
Eight years on and the two-time European Tour winner is showing all the signs that he can consistently compete at the very highest level.
