The first time we saw: Jon Rahm

A closer look at the first time we saw Jon Rahm on camera

Introduced to us while still at Arizona State University, a fresh faced Jon Rahm first appeared on our screens in February 2013. Full of ambition, the then 18-year-old Spaniard talked about working hard to achieve his goals, and his idol Tiger Woods.

"I've got that goal in mind of becoming the best," he said. "If you want to look at the rank in the top players, the top 20, probably ten of are from the United States so playing with them in all the tournaments you kind of realise how good you could be.

"My dad always told me if you want to be good at something, you have to give 100 percent effort everyday. When it comes to practice, I give everything I can.

"My idol since I was five or six years old, it was always Tiger. I think I've seen all of his videos on Youtube, I read one of his books. We are probably the same way because we are both so competitive.

"I'm not sure I'm going to be the best player ever, but I will give everything to try to make it."

Less than two months later, on April 1 2015, Rahm became the 28th player to be ranked World Number One in the Amateur World Rankings - a position he would hold for 60 weeks.

He would also go on to win 11 Collegiate titles for the Arizona State Devils, the second most successful behind Phil Mickelson.
