The race for The European Open blew wide open during the early stages of the final round as both overnight leaders dropped a shot over the opening holes.
Jeev Milkha Singh and Christian Cévaër started the day with a three shot advantage over the field, but both suffered a bogey over their first four played at The London Club and Chris Wood birdied his opening hole to reduce the deficit to one.
The 21 year old Englishman – propelled to stardom last year by his top ten finish at The Open Championship – advanced to seven under for the week with five holes played.
Marcus Fraser of Australia, Wood’s compatriot Steve Webster and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy were all lined up for a title shot at six under, one ahead of the Spanish duo Alvaro Quiros and José Manuel Lara.
