The 31st edition of the Rolex Trophy is over and what an enthralling week it was at Golf Club de Genève as Darius van Driel became a two-time European Challenge Tour champion. Here is what you might have missed from an entertaining week in Geneva…
Hitting bombs
Every year at the Rolex Trophy on the Friday night, 12 Challenge Tour stars take to the custom-made tee at the back of the ninth green for the famous longest drive competition.
The rules are simple; three balls each, keep the ball on the fairway, longest drive wins, and shirt and tie are favoured.
Scotsman and Challenge Tour Number One showed why he is top of the Rankings, hitting the winner drive 349 yards.
DVD’s record-breaking victory
Darius van Driel recorded an incredible 17 under par across the final two rounds, shooting the lowest final 36-hole score on the Challenge Tour in 2019.
His rounds of 63-64 saw him come from seven shots behind at the halfway stage, and four strokes adrift with 18 holes to play, to clinch the Rolex Trophy title by a stroke ahead of Cormac Sharvin.
Looking sharp
The Rolex Trophy is an exclusive limited field event with 40 players taking part. The leading 35 Challenge Tour players at close of entries for the event, plus the leading three players in the Rankings not otherwise exempt after the ISPS Handa World Invitational Men | Women, Presented by Modest! Golf Management, and the leading Swiss star not otherwise exempt, as well as one tournament invite.
The event is played at the stunning Golf Club de Genève with a junior Pro-Am on the first day before three days of Pro-Am, finishing on Saturday.
