Here is everything you need to know from a thrilling week at Fairmont St Andrews.
Otaegui completes unusual hat-trick
Adrian Otaegui produced a brilliant closing round of 63 to storm to his third European Tour title – although unusually it was his first win over 72 holes of stroke play. The Spaniard has shown himself to be an expert at head to head battles, winning both the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play and the Belgian Knockout, and he now has a stroke play, match play and medal match play victory on his CV. Otaegui entered the day four shots off the lead of Matt Wallace but eight birdies in 11 holes from the fifth helped him finish at 23 under, four clear of the Englishman. "Stroke play is my favourite way of golf, I think it’s the proper way," said Otaegui. "You have to play very solidly and very consistently all four rounds, which I think I did. I’m very happy to be able to win stroke play as well, my third win on the European Tour.”
Peculiar chip choice
Paul Waring caught everyone's attention during the opening round when he used a driver to chip out of the rough around the 11th green. Explaining his thinking, he said: "There was no other way of getting club on the ball. I had a massive tuft of fescue grass behind it so I would have had to full swing wedge to get through that but I couldn’t do that because of the gorse bush there. So I put driver right at the back of my stance and then actually hit the actual ball into the floor. Me and my caddie looked at it and he went ‘I actually like driver or three wood out of that’ and I’ve gone ‘well, driver because it’s got a bigger head!’."
To be fair I didn’t have a backswing because of the gorse and a massive clump of fescue rough behind the ball. I’ll show you that one one day! 😜 https://t.co/Q3mSy3NFRK

Harrington heckled
Chipping with a driver wasn't Waring's only risky strategy during the week. Like all European players, we're sure that he has ambitions to play in the Ryder Cup, so is heckling the man who has the power to make your dreams come true the best idea? When Padraig Harrington holed a very long putt from off the green for an eagle at the seventh, playing partner Waring called him "lucky and good". Of course, the Liverpudlian and Harrington are both known for their jovial nature and with the three time Major Champion clearly enjoying the fun, we don't think Waring will have done his chances any harm.
"Lucky and good!" 😂

Cameraman takes a tumble
Home hope Marc Warren got more than he bargained for during a mid-round interview as the cameraman fell over. It gave the Scot a good laugh and didn't do him any harm as he went on to shoot an opening 67.

Wallace unleashes his moves
Runner-up Matt Wallace enjoyed a fine week, particularly his bogey free 66 on day three. In fact his spectacular chip-in on the 17th prompted some equally impressive celebrations.
