There are stark contrasts between the front and back nine of the “A” course. The front nine is designed on open, exposed land along the Mediterranean coastline and the picturesque par four sixth hole requires players to hit into a raised green overlooking the beach. The back nine is played inland and provides a greater challenge as players must navigate their way through tight avenues of pine trees. The 17th hole, at 463 yards, is the longest and toughest par four on the scorecard and players must think strategically off the tee due to a giant tree positioned in the centre of the fairway.
Spanish advantage
The Challenge de Cádiz was a new addition to the Road to Mallorca International Schedule last year and the Spanish players flourished on home soil, taking up three of the top four places on the leaderboard. Pep Angles triumphed at Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club to claim his maiden Challenge Tour victory, while countrymen Alfredo Garcia-Heredia and Eduard Rousaud finished in second and fourth place respectively. Garcia-Heredia and Rousaud will be hoping for another impressive performance as they tee it up again this week in Cádiz.
