The best round of the season

There were 19,217 rounds played last season, but only one can be the best…

Horsey ROTY 1

With the 2017 Race to Dubai season signed, sealed and delivered, there were many individual rounds which stood out above the rest. Alex Noren’s ten under par round at the BMW PGA Championship, Ross Fisher’s 11 under at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and Paul Dunne’s ten under at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports all spring to mind, but which was the best of the season?

Thanks to research from 15th Club, we were able to compare every round from last season to see who had the single best performance compared against the overall field average each day.

Based on these calculations, David Horsey’s eight under par 64 at the Lyoness Open powered by Organic+ was the best single round across the course of the season, 10.6 shots lower than the field average.

Horsey ROTY 3

Equalling the course record, Horsey defied the odds to battle through wild conditions and with it moved up 104 places in the field. Evidence of the testing winds showed in the scores of numerous fellow competitors, with many posting rounds of two over par and above. Despite being three under after their first rounds, Paul Waring and Julien Guerrier found themselves signing for a disappointing 76 and 78, respectively, with much to do come Saturday morning. No such story for Horsey, however. Keeping a cool head, the four-time European Tour winner turned form into advantage, shooting two back-to-back nines of 32, placing himself well within contention.

Horsey ROTY 2

Rounding off the week with a stellar score of 65, the Englishman ultimately fell short come Sunday afternoon due to a damaging three over par 75 on day three. Ending the week in a share of second place, David could hold his head high after his magnificent Thursday performance, an outing which earned him the 2017 Round of the Year.
