Slumbers is the Chief Executive of the R&A and Secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. His office, located on the third floor of the R&A clubhouse, looks out over the Old Course and offers one of the best views in golf.

The building itself dates back to 1854 but it wasn’t until 1899 that the famous balcony was added on the west side of the building.

Many of golf’s most memorable moments have been witnessed from the balcony. From Bobby Jones’ Open victory as an amateur in 1927 to Seve’s fist-pumping win in 1984 to Costantino Rocca’s Valley of Sin putt in 1995 to Zach Johnson’s play-off victory earlier this summer, all were watched from this historic spot.
