Team Denmark looking forward to World Cup defence

Team Denmark are looking forward to defending their ISPS HANDA Melbourne World Cup of Golf crown this week, but with a star-studded field assembled at The Metropolitan Golf Club, they know it will be far from easy.

Søren Kjeldsen and Thorbjørn Olesen won the 2016 edition at Kingston Heath Golf Club and the duo are reunited for this week's event.

But they face stiff competition, with the likes of England's Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton and Australia's Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith out to stop them from becoming the first team to successfully defend the trophy since a Tiger Woods-inspired United States did so in 2000.

Ryder Cup star Olesen said: "It's not going to be easy, but we're looking forward to it.

"Obviously we had a great time two years ago. It's really special to be able to win the World Cup. Being the first time Denmark has ever done it makes it that much more special.

"You know, we're going to go out there this week and give it our best and see what happens.

"It's a difficult format and I guess you need a little bit of luck also. Yeah, it's going to be difficult, but we'll do our best."

Kjeldsen agrees that defending the title will not be easy. He said: "Like Thorbjørn says, it's going to be very difficult.

"I think there are a lot of strong teams this year as well but I look forward to it. It was fun the last time, I think it's going to be fun again."

Four-time European Tour winner Kjeldsen believes the pair's differing playing styles complemented each other well two years ago and hopes that will stand them in good stead again this time around.

He added: "I think one of the things that worked in our favour the last time is that we're probably opposite kind of players.

"I get up on the tee first, most of the time I put it in the fairway. I've got sort of a solid game whereas Thorbjørn's got more of a flashy game.

"He does great stuff and amazing stuff now and again and I think it works well."
