Tabuena makes flying start in Perth

Miguel Tabuena fired the lowest nine holes of the season so far as he turned in a remarkable 28 on day one of the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth.

The Filipino started his round with seven straight birdies and then added another on the 18th at Lake Karrinyup Country Club to get to eight under and lead the way.

Another gain on the first made it nine birdies in ten holes and he led by five shots to put Western Australia on 59 watch.

James Nitties - who made a world record equalling nine birdies in a row last week at the ISPS Handa Vic Open  - was at four under, a shot clear of another Australian in Steven Jeffress.

Tabuena's 28 blows was just one above the all-time European Tour record for nine holes in terms of both score and score to par.

Nitties - runner-up at this event last season - birdied the tenth, 12th, 14th and 15th in his first six holes, while Jeffress started birdie-eagle from the tenth to be three under through five.

There were then 13 players at two under including S S P Chawrasia, Jake McLeod, Jason Scrivener and Callum Shinkwin.
