Adam Svensson stays ahead in stormy Kentucky

Adam Svensson still holds a two-stroke lead at the Barbasol Championship after competitors experienced nearly five and a half hours of delays in Kentucky.

The start of the second round was delayed by two hours due to fog and play was later suspended for three hours and 20 minutes due to lightning at Keene Trace Golf Club.

The Canadian made a fast start with four birdies on his first seven holes and he made three further gains, cancelling out two bogeys, for a five under round of 67 and a 15 under par total.

“It was a good day," said Svensson. "I just tried to get through the day without having one more suspension there, but I hit it well again today. A couple loose shots here and there and a couple bogeys, but overall five under par was a great day.

“It's obviously a little bit annoying because you kind of get out of the routine and stuff like that, but yeah, you kind of do the same thing, same game plan. I knew that shooting ten under yesterday, I'm not going to do that again today, so I just tried to get it around in something close to that.”

Svensson is two strokes ahead of American Trey Mullinax, who will return to the course on Saturday morning to complete his second round after teeing off at 5:41pm. Mullinax is six under par for his round through 13 holes, with five still to play.

Of those who have finished their rounds, in a share of third on 12 under par are Brandon Hagy, Mark Hubbard and DP World Tour member Robin Roussel.

Starting his second round on the back nine, Roussel parred his first five holes and then birdied three of the next four before the turn, before lightning stopped play. Two further birdies followed on his back nine as he remains in the hunt in the United States.

"Four under is always a good score whatever the condition is, today especially because we've been here since 6:00 this morning," said the Frenchman. "We've been waiting for like two, two and a half hours because of the fog and then another two and a half hours because of the storm. So never easy to manage this kind of things, but we did it well, so that was good."

Two-time DP World Tour winner Tom Lewis and 2021 DP World Tour Rookie of the Year Matti Schmid are also on 12 under par but with four and eight holes respectively still to play.

Yannik Paul, who graduated from the European Challenge Tour after finishing seventh on last year’s Road to Mallorca Rankings, shares tenth on 11 under par, while his fellow Challenge Tour graduate Julien Brun is a stroke further back in a share of 16th.

"“It was a long day today," Paul said. "I got here at 6:30, and I finished at 6:00p.m. so it was a long day. It's a long day for everyone. My game feels solid. Drove it pretty well and putting was really good, so yeah, just try to stick to my process and see where it ends up."

The entire afternoon wave, comprising of 76 golfers, are scheduled to resume their second rounds at 8:30am on Saturday morning.
