Jesper Svensson is looking to reignite his hot start to the European Challenge Tour season when he tees it up on home soil at the Indoor Golf Group Challenge as Landeryds Golfklubb this week.
The Swede secured a maiden win on the Challenge Tour in his first start of the season when he triumphed at the B-NL Challenge Trophy back in May.
The 27-year-old hasn’t missed a cut since, and with four top ten finishes in 12 appearances, finds himself in tenth position in the Road to Mallorca Rankings and closing in on promotion to the DP World Tour for the first time.
Svensson, who joins a 156-strong field in the second of back-to-back events in Sweden, isn’t looking too far ahead and is hoping to impress across all four days this week.
“The season got off to a pretty hot start, and I played really well in the first couple of weeks on the Challenge Tour,” he said. “Since then, I’ve had a few good rounds but haven’t been able to put all four together, but I’m looking forward to a good week here.
“I’m sitting in tenth spot in the Rankings at the moment but I’m trying not to think about that too much.
“The last couple of weeks I’ve been going into tournaments with the mindset of trying to play more freely and keep my mind off the Rankings. Hopefully good results will follow.”
Svensson admits the course setup at Landeryds has changed since he last played it but hopes the firmness of the greens can play to his strengths.
“The course is looking great,” he added. “The greens are very firm and it’s going to be a fun test. I think it suits my game with it being firmer out here.
“I played an event here a long time ago and there’s a few new tee boxes and bunkers now. It’s playing a bit different to how I remember it, so it almost feels like a new course.”
Svensson joins a strong field in Sweden that includes the youngest winner in DP World Tour history, Matteo Manassero, Road to Mallorca Number Two, Ugo Coussaud, and two-time DP World Tour winner Tom Lewis.
Play gets under way on Thursday at 7:30am local time with Svensson teeing off at 8:40am alongside Spaniard Ivan Cantero Gutierrez and South African Jacques Kruyswijk.
