Andy Sullivan’s fabulous flop shot during the third round of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters has been voted as January’s Shot of the Month by My European Tour fans.
The Englishman was faced with a tricky up-and-down shot from the back of the green to make par on the sixth hole, and he opted for a lofted wedge shot which he executed to perfection.
Ryder cup player Sullivan staved off some stiff competition for the January award, including a hole-in-one from Jaco Van Zyl and a hole-out eagle from Rory McIlroy, both at the BMW South African Open.
“I walked up to my ball and said, there’s only one way to play this and get it close!" said Sullivan.
"I think that was the key, it was relatively simple as there was only one shot to play as anything else would have either run 15ft past the hole or if I tried to land it in the rough to slow it down I could face an even trickier chip if it didn’t reach the putting surface. There’s only one thing for it, lob wedge, full swing, keep the face open through the ball to guarantee a high soft shot. Sometimes they come off and sometimes they don’t!
“It’s always great to win something that is voted for by the fans so thanks to everyone out there who voted for me.”
Congratulations Andy and thanks to all the fans who voted. Look out for the February Shot of the Month competition coming soon.
