Lee Westwood moved into a commanding four shot lead before the threat of lightning forced play to be suspended for over four hours during the final round of the Maybank Malaysian Open.
The Englishman had seen the same margin whittled down to a single stroke by compatriot Andy Sullivan on Saturday, but the 40 year old needed only three holes to restore his advantage.
The 27 year old Sullivan found water at the second and hit a wayward fourth from the drop zone, eventually carding a triple bogey seven.
The former Walker Cup star responded with a hat-trick of birdies, but dropped another shot at the seventh after finding trees down the left.
And former World Number One Westwood birdied the long tenth to reach 16 under for the week before the hooter sounded at 12:47 with the final group on the 12th hole at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
Sullivan and another Englishman, Danny Willett, were four adrift, with Belgian Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts and Julien Quesne tied for fourth on 11 under.
It was announced that play would resume at 17:00 local time, leaving just over two hours of daylight for the tournament to be completed.
When play restarted Willett bogeyed the 13th and Sullivan dropped a shot after finding water at the 12th, leaving Westwood to race six shot clear with a ten foot birdie at the 13th.
