Graeme Storm opened up a three stroke lead in the KLM Open after keeping a bogey off his card for the second day in succession.
Out early this morning following a stunning opening round of 63, Storm performed admirably once again to reach 11 under at Hilversumsche GC.
That put him three clear of Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, with Scott Jamieson a further stroke back after picking up five shots in the first nine holes this afternoon.
Storm, 41st in last week’s Omega European Masters and 114th on The Race to Dubai, recorded birdies at the third, 11th, 15th and 18th.
“It makes a change to have all red on my card,” he said. “Hopefully I used all the bogeys up last week in Crans and long may it continue.
“I wasn't expecting to shoot four under. I just managed to go round and keep the bogeys off the card as I did yesterday and made a few birdies.
“It's all about momentum and for two days it has gone my way.
“The goal for me still is to keep my card, even though I am leading. If someone comes through then so be it, I just need my card for next year.”
Fernandez-Castaño, who birdied his final two holes yesterday, went round in 65 to secure a good position heading into the weekend.
An opening birdie at the ninth was followed by an eagle at 12 and he made three further gains after registering his only bogey at 13.
“I think I could have hit the ball better but my scoring was very good thanks to my short game,” said the Spaniard.
“Overall I am very happy with eight under after two rounds.”
After a below-par season by his own high standards, Fernandez-Castaño is delighted to be back at a venue where he triumphed in 2005.
“This is one of my favourite courses of the year and one of the best,” he added. “It gets the best out of the game. I love everything about this course.
“My year has been disappointing to say the least. I was in contention to get into The Ryder Cup Team but didn’t make it. I didn’t play well over the summer ... hopefully I can improve this second half, hopefully with a win, and maybe here. It is a course I like very much.”
Nicolas Colsaerts was among those tied for fourth on five under, having matched Fernandez-Castaño’s score of 65.
The Belgian’s round - which contained five birdies and no dropped shots - will surely have delighted playing partner and European Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal.
The other member of their three-ball, former World Number One Martin Kaymer, carded 71 today but remained in contention at four under, the same score as defending champion Simon Dyson, who went round in 66.
