After heavy rain had caused most of Saturday to be washed out, the leaders were faced with 36 holes on the final day to decide a winner in Germany.

Stenson - the 2006 champion - had finished second in this event the last two years and entered the last round at 16 under as he went in search of a tenth European Tour title.

The Swede stayed at that mark after his first four holes but that gave him just a one-shot lead over Thorbjørn Olesen with Raphaël Jacquelin making a move to 13 under with early birdies.

Darren Fichardt was then at 12 under, with Mike Lorenzo-Vera a further shot back.

Olesen quickly erased Stenson's lead with a birdie on the first but the Swede hit back with an opening birdie of his own to get his nose back out in front.

The Dane then made a disappointing bogey on the par five third - a hole he had birdied twice in the first three rounds - as Stenson established a two-shot cushion.

But the Swede went on to record just his second dropped shot of the week on the par three fourth to make it as you were at the very top of the leaderboard.

Jacquelin - who held at least a share of the lead after rounds one and two - was making the move through the field as he birdied the first and third to get to 13 under, a shot clear of Fichardt who had made it four birdies out of four on the third.

Lorenzo-Vera was level par for his round at ten under, one ahead of Bernd Wiesberger, who had made two birdies in six holes, and Kiradech Aphibarnrat who had a gain on the fourth.

David Horsey had set the clubhouse target at nine under with a closing 70.
