Henrik Stenson was pleased to maintain his consistency at Major Championships as he recorded a sixth consecutive top-25 finish in golf’s biggest events at the US Open Championship.
The European Number One carded a closing 73 to finish tied for fourth at Pinehurst No.2 – his third top five in his last four Major appearances.
And while the Swede was unable to get near runaway winner Martin Kaymer, the FedEx Cup winner was pleased with his week’s work.
“I didn't have my best day by any means and I finished fourth,” he said.
“I didn't play my best over the weekend and to still finish fourth, then I guess we will take some positives out of that.
“I’ve got some good finishes in the big events and never mind this week, it was just one player on the field and I didn't have the game to even try to charge.
“Again, I'm up there, you always learn something, and I know I can play good at the Majors.”
Stenson finished alongside American four-time Challenge Tour winner Brooks Koepka, who completed by far his best Major showing with a 71 to match Stenson’s one over total.
That was two ahead of last year’s winner Justin Rose, who birdied the last from 20 feet for a 72, and Kaymer’s compatriot Marcel Siem, who completed a good weekend for the German contingent.
“It's a nice way to finish,” said Rose. “I got frustrated today. I played really nicely and I felt like there was a score for me today, I just kind of let it get away.
“Obviously, walking up 18, I was reminding myself - you win some, lose some. I had the great moment last year, and then today no doubt dejected by walking up 18.”
