Stanley leads in California

Kyle Stanley holds a one shot lead after a solid round of 68 on the second day of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in California.

Ben Curtis and Brandt Snedeker

Stanley was joint overnight leader with Spencer Levin after the pair both shot 62 but the latter had a miserable day, a round of 76 including six birdies seeing him finish in a tie for 20th.

Stanley hit a birdie at the last to head the field on 14 under ahead of Brandt Snedeker with Bae Sang-moon and Martin Flores a further shot back.

Bill Haas, the reigning FedEx Cup champion, and Hunter Mahan are also in double figures at ten under.

Stanley said: "My mindset right now is I'm trying to play boring golf - hit fairways, hit greens and make a few putts."

Snedeker played the North Course, with Stanley on the South, and shot a 64 that included a stretch of five straight birdies as he made the turn and a total of nine overall.

"I'm driving the ball as good as I've ever driven it in my career, which isn't saying a lot, but it's saying enough for me right now," said Snedeker.

"I'm still putting the ball really, really well. So I'm excited with where I am after the first two days.

"I feel like as good as I've played, I've left a few out there, which is a good feeling to know my game is where it needs to be."

Among the players who did not make the cut was Phil Mickelson, a three-time champion who missed by three shots.

Justin Rose leads the European challenge on five under par.
