Spectator FAQs

Please read the information below that will help you get the best out of your day.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Date: Thursday 7 September – Sunday 10 September 2023

Field: 156 Players

FORMAT

The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play event. The field will play one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 65 players (and those who tie for 65th place) will go forward to the third and fourth rounds.

In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a hole-by-hole play-off.

PRIZE PRESENTATION

The Prize Presentation will be held on the 18th green upon the conclusion of play (approximately 17:30) on Sunday 10 September.

TELEVISION BROADCAST

The Horizon Irish Open is beamed to over 400 million homes around the world and will be broadcast live on SKY SPORTS and the Golf Channel, with Highlights on RTE and BBC NI.

EVENT PROGRAMME

The electronic programme phone App is available to download onsite free of charge by scanning the programme QR codes which will be located around the venue. The programme phone app is where you will find all the tournament information and updates, including live scores, the daily draws, course map, catering locations, full event schedule and entertainment.

CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS

There will not be ATM’s onsite. This is a cashless event. Contactless payments accepted.

TICKETS

Purchase your tickets prior to arrival here. The ticket office will also be located in Welcome Tent.

WELCOME TENT

The Welcome Tent is at the main entrance to the Championship. Within the Welcome Tent there will be the following facilities:

  • Ticket Checking
  • Ticket Sales
  • Ticket Collection

SPECTATOR'S ETIQUETTE

  • Remain still for each shot and do not move until all the Players in the group have played or holed out.
  • Kneel or sit down if you are in the front row. Consider other spectators when using an umbrella.
  • Do not speak to the players while they are on the course.
  • Please keep behind the ropes and barriers on the course and use the official crossing points.
  • Walk, don’t run, and obey the course marshals – they are trying to make your day more enjoyable.
  • There is no dress code in public areas.
  • Dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Sensible shoes should be worn. No metal spikes allowed.
  • Due to social distancing, spectators are prohibited from asking for player autographs.
  • Please listen to any public address announcements and follow instructions from officials and volunteers should they be necessary.

COURSE

Spectators can move freely around the golf course but please stay outside the ropes. Controlled crossing points, which are clearly marked by signposts and manned by course Marshals, should be used when crossing fairways.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

If it is necessary to evacuate the site, please follow the instructions of the course marshals, volunteers and event officials in an orderly fashion.

PRO-AM

The Horizon Irish Open Pro-Am takes place on Wednesday 6 July. Spectators will have a front row view of their favourite golfers.

PRACTICE

The practice days prior to the event days are not open to the public. The event is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday.

MARSHALS

Chief Marshal Bernard Gibbons and team will be managing the Horizon Irish Open volunteer programme. The Marshals are extremely influential in helping to ensure that play runs smoothly.

The purpose of a Marshal is to ensure that the competitors are able to compete under the best conditions.

Many of the marshals have volunteered at a number of other golf events across the country and have a good understanding of the appropriate golfing etiquette.

THE VILLAGE

The Village is where it’s all happening off the golf course and where you will find plenty of seating to relax. There will also be a Giant TV screen so there is no need to miss any of the golf. There will be fun activities for the whole family, retail units and food and drink outlets ensuring that the golf course is not the only place where the action is happening.

ENTERTAINMENT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP VILLAGE

There will be the following evening entertainment on the show stage after the golf:

Scouting for Girls will be the headline act on Saturday evening 18:00 – 19:30

The Stunning will be the headline act on Sunday evening 18:00 – 19:30

CHARITY

The official charity to the Horizon Irish Open is “Make A Wish”

There is “Make A Wish Challenge” a 20m long putt located in the The Village where, for a small donation, you can try and hole out and support a fantastic charity in the process.

MERCHANDISE

INFORMATION CENTRE

The Information Centre is located in the Championship Village. This is also the location for lost property.

WATER STATIONS

We encourage you to bring your own reusable bottles as there will be a water station within the Championship Village.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINK?

No picnics / picnic hampers to be brought into the venue.

Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted to be brought into the venue.

PUBLIC CATERING AND ON-COURSE CATERING HAMLETS

There are public catering hamlets serving a variety of food and drinks.

“The Watering Hole” – 4th (07:00 – 18:00)

“The Fire Pit” – 8th (11:30 – 20:00)

The View – 12th (07:00 – 18:00)

The Approach – 16th (07:00 – 18:00)

*Catering outlets and opening hours are subject to change

ON-COURSE TOILET FACILITIES

There are public toilet facilities available in the following areas (near catering facilities):

  • The Championship Village
  • 4th hole
  • 8th hole
  • 12th hole
  • 16th hole

Baby changing facilities are located within the disabled toilets.

GRANDSTANDS

1st Tee

18th Green

NO SMOKING in the grandstands or viewing platforms. Alcohol will be permitted on the grandstands at this event. Spectators are kindly asked not to stand up on the stands during play.

A dedicated wheelchair viewing roped off area will be positioned beside the 18th grandstand, and beside the 1st tee.

ADDITIONAL SEATING

There are seating areas located in the The Village surrounding the food outlets, big screen, and exhibitions.

LEADERBOARDS

Leaderboards are located on holes: holes 6, 9, 12, 16, 17 and 18 Greens.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Observe the leaderboards and big screens throughout the golf course for weather warning signs that will appear prior to inclement weather moving into the area. Spectators are advised to take precautions PRIOR to play being suspended. If the siren sounds, seek shelter immediately, avoiding the following:

Open areas

Hilltops or high places

Isolated trees

Golf buggies

Wire fences

CLOTHING AND WHAT TO WEAR

It would be recommended to wear casual golf wear. The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury. Please check the weather forecast before you set off on your journey.

Blue denim Jeans are not permitted in the Clubhouse or 18th Green Hospitality Pavilion.

SMOKING POLICY

Smoking is not permitted in any structure, including grandstands, outdoor balconies & viewing platforms.

WI-FI

Free Wi-Fi is available for spectators throughout the site. The main hotspots are situated in the Championship Village.

PHONE CHARGING

No Phone charging stations. Remember to bring a portable phone power bank.

THE USE OF MOBILE PHONES

The use of mobile phones is permitted but restricted to dedicated areas only, where event signage will refer to them as “mobile phone zones”. Only in these dedicated areas can calls be made or received, however phones must remain on silent at all times.

The use of any cameras, computers and other electronic equipment at the Tournament Thursday to Sunday is not permitted other than with the proper accreditation. Cameras are allowed during the Pro Am on Wednesday.

Making or distributing broadcasts, commentary, news reports, data, results

or statistics by any means in any format or media including any such by mobile phone or other wireless device is not permitted.

CAMERAS

Cameras are permitted ONLY on Pro Am Day – Wednesday. Cameras are NOT permitted on Match Days – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although mobile phones are permitted on all five days of the event, the use of the camera facility is as per the above.

BOOKMAKER

There are no bookmaker facilities on site.

ARE WHEELCHAIRS ALLOWED ON SITE AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Wheelchairs and other motorised chairs are allowed on the tournament grounds should you like to bring them.

Golf carts and other motorised vehicles will not be available to rent or use during the tournament week. A dedicated roped off, wheelchair viewing area, will be positioned at the front of the 18th and beside the 1st tee. Disabled toilet facilities are located at the public catering areas in the The Village.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

There will be dedicated disabled spaces on site for spectators whose vehicles display a blue badge. Wheelchair users will need to contact Ticketing@europeantourgroup.com in order to make arrangements in advance and gain admission to site.

IS THERE A PUBLIC CRECHE

There will not be a public crèche at this venue. There is a baby changing facility within the disabled toilet at the public catering area by the Championship Village.

CAN I BRING A CHILD'S BUGGY / PUSCHAIR?

Yes you can. However please be aware of uneven terrain. Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury.

ARE DOGS PERMITTED ON THE COURSE?

Dogs are not permitted on the course with the exception of trained assistance guide dogs, and we respectfully suggest that you do not leave your pet in the car.

FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH THE LOCATION OF FIRST AID STATIONS AND REFRESHMENT AREAS

On entry to the venue look for map board, this will help you find exits, key facilities and provide other key information.

MEDICAL FIRST AID

Full medical and first aid facility is located opposite the tented village/rear of driving range. There will also be mobile first aid units. Should you require medical assistance whilst out on course, please ask a marshal or event official who can radio for assistance.

LOST PROPERTY

Lost property that has been found can be handed in to the nearest marshal, volunteer or event official. All items will be delivered to the Information tent in the Championship Village during the day and the Championship Office at the end of each day. The Championship Office is located in Car Park 1

LEFT LUGGAGE

There will not be a left luggage facility at this tournament.

CAN I BRING A BAG / RUCKSACK?

Bags and rucksacks are permitted at the Championship and there are no restrictions on size. For your safety, security bag searches may be in operation on entry.

BICYCLES

Bicycle parking will be available at the front of the Public Park and Ride. Bicycles are left at your own risk. Please provide your own lock.
