The World Number 23 is the highest ranked player in the field at Natadola Bay Golf Course but after a quick turnaround following his appearance at the Ryder Cup, he arrived on the island paradise with little knowledge of the layout.

He stated his confidence that he would soon get to grips with the coastal course and so it proved, following rounds of 69 and 65 with four pars on Saturday to take a share of the lead with Matthew Giles and Anthony Houston.

Matthew Griffin was two shots back on eight under, a shot clear of fellow Australians Jake Higginbottom and Aaron Pike, and New Zealander Gareth Paddison.

Giles had entered the day with a one-shot lead but that was gone on the first hole as the Australian recorded a bogey to make it a three-way tie at ten under.

Countryman Houston then dropped a shot on the second to move to nine under, just one shot clear of PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit leader Griffin, who had birdied the first and third.

A bounceback birdie on the third then saw Houston rejoin the lead in quick fashion.

Griffin, Higginbottom and Pike had all also played four holes, with Higginbottom one over for his round and Pike level par.

Paddison had set a new course record of 64 on Friday and he birdied the first, fifth and sixth in his first six holes.

Australian duo Andrew Evans and Stephen Leaney, South Korean Hur In-hoi and Kiwi Brad Shilton were then all six under.
