Snedeker makes fast start on day two

Brandt Snedeker picked up four shots on Friday morning to get within one of the lead on day two of the Fiji International at Natadola Bay Golf Course.

The American did not get much chance to look at the beautiful layout after arriving on the island paradise following the Ryder Cup but said after an opening 69 that he was confident he would get to grips with it as the week moved on.

That looked to very much be the case in round two as he made four birdies in his first ten holes to get to seven under, just one shot behind Australians Matthew Giles and Anthony Houston.

Overnight leader Houston was one under for his round after eight holes while Giles picked up three shots in his first 11.

Giles was the first man to make a move and went birdie-birdie on the fifth and sixth before registering an eagle two on the eighth to open up a two-shot lead.

A dropped shot on the 11th moved him back to eight under, though, and Houston was able to join him at that mark with a birdie on the eighth.

Snedeker got off to a slow start on day one with a bogey on the second but he has not made a mistake since and took his bogey-free tally to 26 holes, picking up birdies on the tenth, 15th, 17th and first.

New Zealander Brad Shilton also had three birdies in his first ten holes from the first to sit at six under alongside Stephen Leaney, who was one of the later starters.

There was then a group of eight players three shots off the lead.
