Snedeker fully focused on Fiji

Brandt Snedeker may have spent last week trying his best to beat Europe but just four days later he is going in search of a first European Tour title at the Fiji International.

The Nashville native played a key role in the United States winning the Ryder Cup for the first time in eight years at Hazeltine National, as he claimed three points out of three in their 17-11 triumph in Minnesota.

Snedker gets straight back to work at Natadola Bay Golf Course, with the Fiji International taking its place on the European Tour International Schedule for the first time, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia.

The 35 year old plans to spend a week in Fiji after the tournament, showing his children where he and his wife spent their honeymoon, but despite last week's exertions and paradise island surroundings, Snedeker is here to win.

"As great as last week was, it's a completely different week and I have to get my head on straight and get ready to play here," he said.

"It will be tough but getting out there today will help. You're only as good as your last round so you realise after a day that it's going to be a whole new tournament. I didn't come over here to play bad, I came over here to have a good time.

"At the end of the day this is a professional pride, I've got to get my name on that leaderboard and shoot as low as I possibly can all week here.

"Anytime you win, anytime it's important and it would be a good way to start off my season, because this is kind of the beginning of the new season for me right now and it would be a great start with a win."

This will be just Snedeker's fifth regular European Tour event, following three missed cuts and a run to the quarter-finals of the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2012.

His last regular appearance came at the Australian PGA Championship when he opened with an 84 on a week where level par was good enough to earn you a spot in a play-off.

He went on to claim two wins in his next four events on his way to 15th in the FedEx Cup, and he cites that week on the Gold Coast as a major moment in his season.

"You need to have a slap in the face and make sure that you're working on the right stuff and take the tail between your legs and go home, readjust," he said.

"Guys out here are used to having struggles. You need to struggle to get your mind right and get back to work. It made me get motivated, get back to work.

"It's funny how you go from shooting 84 down there to playing some of the best golf of my life. That's part of how this game is so crazy."
