Sky’s no limit for Willett

Danny Willett believes contending in the final round of a tournament “won’t seem half as difficult now” after beginning preparation for this week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic by jumping out of an aeroplane at 13,000 feet.

Willett, who won his debut European Tour title at the BMW International open two years ago, was joined on Monday by wife Nicole and caddie Jonathan Smart for the charity skydive, with the trio raising money for the British Heart Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

“It was an unbelievable experience,” said the Englishman, who tees up at Emirates Golf Club alongside Jbe Kruger and Justin Walters at 11.35am on Thursday morning. “All three of us were pretty nervous beforehand, but once we got over the initial shock of jumping out, it was truly awesome.”

Willett was asked how shooting towards the Skydive Dubai premises, reaching speeds of 210 kilometres-per-hour, compared with the pressure of competing in some of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.

“Teeing off in the last round when I’m in contention won’t seem half as difficult now,” joked the 26 year old. “It has made me want to do another, though, and eventually one on my own.

“It was something we always fancied doing,” he added. “More importantly, our two chosen charities are extremely worthy causes, and any contributions made would be very much appreciated.”
