India’s Singh reached seven under par through 14 holes to take a one shot lead over South African Retief Goosen, who had played 11.
Goosen’s compatriot James Kingston was in a three way tie for third with American duo Nick Watney and Sean O’Hair at five under on the famous par 72, 7,266 yard Blue Monster course.
Henrik Stenson and Oliver Wilson were in the group at four under in this 80 man, no cut tournament, with Lee Westwood, Camilo Villegas, Louis Oosthuizen, Rod Pampling, Padraig Harrington, Garth Mulroy, Rory McIlroy and Miguel Angel Jiménez amongst those a shot further back.
