Singapore Classic - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from Friday's weather-affected second round at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

Amateur Ding showed his immense potential and first-round leader McKibbin starred again, while rain disrupted play on day two of the 2023 Singapore Classic.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday's weather-affected second round at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

McKibbin puts on a show

Tom McKibbin found himself in a tricky spot in the rough just in front of a bunker at the fifth but played one of the shots of the day to set up a tap-in birdie. His approach shot pitched on the front of the green before racing towards the flag and settling a few feet from the hole.

The Northern Irishman holds the clubhouse lead on 11 under par after his second-round 69 but is tied at the top with amateur Ding Wenyi, who has four holes still to complete after play was suspended due to fading light on Friday evening following an earlier weather delay.

Schaper gets hole-in-one

Jayden Schaper became the second man this week to make an ace as he holed out from 198 yards at the par-three 17th using a seven iron.

Brilliant balance required from Välimäki

Sami Välimäki found himself down by the water at the fifth and had to stand on the wall guarding it in order to hit his second shot, with the backs of his shoes hanging off the edge. Rather you than us, Sami!

Amazing amateur lands two eagles

The highlight of Ding's front nine came at the par-four fifth as he holed out for an eagle. And the amateur star repeated the trick at the tenth, making another eagle on a par four to surge into contention. The Chinese 18-year-old shares the lead and will finish his second round when play resumes on Saturday morning.

Rain stops play

Heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon meant McKibbin, Ding and their fellow later starters had to pause their rounds for an hour due to flooded greens. It's safe to say it was pretty wet out there.
