Sime Darby Property becomes Official Partner to the BMW PGA Championship

The European Tour is delighted to announce leading Malaysian property developer, Sime Darby Property Berhad, as an Official Partner to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Surrey, England, from May 23-26.

By partnering with The European Tour at Wentworth Club’s famous West Course, Sime Darby Property, owner of the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), which has played host to The European and Asian Tour-sanctioned Maybank Malaysia Open and LPGA- sanctioned Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, effectively solidified its international profile and leadership position in terms of quality and innovation in the Malaysian and global property industry. The Tour’s flagship event is one of the most significant tournaments in the season-long Race to Dubai. The company is also the first Asian partner to sponsor the tournament.

This is fortified by the company’s presence and experience in London (UK) and in the Asia Pacific region with projects in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and China.

Sime Darby Property has a development portfolio of luxury international real estates. In London, the iconic Battersea Power Station site on the south bank of the River Thames is a flagship project for the Company in partnership with SP Setia and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) as a Malaysian consortium. Sime Darby Property will become a welcome addition to the BMW PGA Championship’s family of sponsors at Wentworth Club in May, when England’s Luke Donald, the current World Number Three, and attempts to win the iconic title for the third consecutive year.

The 2013 BMW PGA Championship boasts a prize fund of €4.75 million in 2013 and one of the strongest fields on The European Tour International Schedule, with many of the world’s best players in action over the famous West Course at Wentworth Club. All four days will be broadcast live on Sky Sports with highlights on BBC.

The Championship is set to deliver an enhanced spectator experience this year as Europe’s Ryder Cup Team, triumphant from the ‘Miracle in Medinah’, regroup for the first time competitively on British soil at Wentworth Club.

This year sees the introduction of a new Park and Ride system to help facilitate the flow of traffic. The system will operate from two locations – one near Sunningdale, carrying traffic from the West (M3 and M4) and one at the Review Ground, Windsor Great Park, which is East of the tournament venue close to the M25. Both parks will operate free shuttle bus service to Wentworth Club every five minutes with the journey time taking around ten minutes and allowing easy access to a new Welcome Entrance through the Tented Village.
