Siem aces second to charge up leaderboard

Germany’s Marcel Siem continued his excellent form to burst onto the leaderboard at the BMW PGA Championship.

Marcel Siem hole-in-one on the second

Siem birdied the first at Wentworth Club then had the tournament’s first hole-in-one since 2008 at the next, before adding another birdie at the fourth.

That incredible scoring burst saw him four under for the day and six under for the week, and up into fourth place.

He was still five adrift of leader Luke Donald. The defending champion was about to tee off two clear of compatriot Justin Rose.

Donald's lead went to three when Rose went over the second green as the wind died, and failed to get up and down.

Those who thought Donald would pull away were in for a surprise. Rose birdied the third and fourth and was level because the World Number Two three-putted the fourth for a bogey six.

They were ten under par, two ahead of Peter Lawrie and Paul Lawrie, who eagled the fourth and made a seven footer on the sixth.

Donald missed a five foot birdie chance on the short fifth, but made amends from 14 feet at the next and moved one in front again.
