Sherborne striving for strong finish

Englishman Andrew Sherborne is looking to end an improved 2012 season on a high note at this week’s MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius.

The 51 year old recorded back-to-back top five finishes in the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters and Pon Senior Open in September and tees it up at Constance Belle Mare Plage in 22ndposition on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit.

That represents a steady improvement on his rookie Senior Tour campaign in 2011 when he recorded two top ten finishes and ended the year in 43rdposition on the money list.

Sherborne, who won twice on the European Tour in the 1990s, began brightly in the MCB Tour Championship 12 months ago, with opening rounds of 70 and 72, before slumping to a final round 77 to finish back in tied 23rdposition.

After finding more consistency across the season, Sherborne hopes he can do the same for 54 holes over the Legend Course this time round and sign off the campaign with his best Senior Tour finish.

“I’m looking forward to playing this week even though it is a bit too hot for me,” he said. “I had a poor last day here last year, shooting 77. I let it go a bit the first day as well, but that can happen around this golf course.

“I was quite happy with how I played last year though, apart from that last day. You can never take anything for granted in this game so we will have to see how it goes this week, but I’m looking forward to it and hope I can do well.

“Everyone here this week would like to end the season on a high, but only a few people are going to do that.  It is a great place to end the year at though, and I think we all enjoy this week.”
