Senior Open de Portugal going green

Belas Clube de Campo Senior Open de Portugal will take new strides in becoming a green, environmentally friendly tournament when it takes place near Lisbon from 29 September to 1 October 2011.

The tournament will establish ambitious sustainable goals, which require the strict control of the impact on the environment, as well as optimising the area’s natural resources.

In order to achieve this, Belas Clube de Campo has partnered with the specialised CAOS organisation, Green Point, to ensure that all partners involved in the event will implement a green strategy, certifying the tournament as a R100 event.

Gilberto Jordan, ceo of the André Jordan Group®, has proposed to launch a new era of sustainability in sports events in Portugal starting with Belas Clube de Campo Senior Open de Portugal. Mr. Jordan said:

“The organisation of the Belas Clube de Campo Senior Open de Portugal will set a new standard in the sustainability of the controlled use of resources.

“We will compensate CO2 emissions through a reforestation policy, separate and recycle 100% of the recyclable residues, optimise the consumption of water, energy and fuel and reduce the use of natural resources to produce brochures and other printed materials in order to meet Green Point’s certification standards.”
