Semi-finals both tied at halfway stage

There was nothing to choose between the players in either semi-final as both contests at the Volvo World Match Play Championship were left balanced at all square going into the second 18 holes this afternoon.

Volvo World Match Play Championship - Semi Finals

Anthony Kim and Robert Allenby, who met three weeks ago in the Presidents Cup when the American ran out a five and three winner, enjoyed a terrific tussle.

Allenby went behind early on but then looked like establishing a healthy lead when he won three holes out of four from the fourth to go two up.

But The Ryder Cup star battled back to go ahead when his Australian opponent bogeyed the 16th, before the 38 year old birdied the next to finish the first 18 holes level.

In the other semi-final England’s Ross Fisher battled back gamely from three down with five to play against Masters Tournament champion Angel Cabrera and a birdie at the last got him back on level terms.

Cabrera turned one up and tripled his advantage when Fisher bogeyed the short 12th and he pitched to six feet at the 13th.

Fisher made a 12 footer on the 14th and the Argentinian paid for following his opponent into a bunker at the 15th as Fisher was the one to get up and down.

Then Fisher took the par five last with a birdie and although he was round in 72 to Cabrera's 70 they were all square.

The quartet were playing for high stakes.  Reaching the final guaranteed €450,000, with the winner taking home €750,000, while third place was worth €250,000 and fourth €200,000.
