Jason Scrivener made three early birdies to move into a share of the lead on day two of the ISPS Handa Vic Open at 13th Beach Golf Club.
The innovative event was making its first appearance on the European Tour as the field tackled the Beach and the Creek courses, with men and women from four tours playing over the same layouts in separate tournaments for equal prize money.
Home favourite Scrivener played his first six holes on the Creek course in three under to get to 11 under for the week and share the lead with fellow Australian Matt Jager.
Jager picked up five shots in his first 13 holes over the Beach to sit a shot ahead of Michael Hoey - who turned in 32 on the Creek - and overnight leader Nick Flanagan.
South African Louis de Jager was then at nine under.
Jager began his day four shots off the lead and while he birdied the second, he was still off the pace of late starter Flanagan after five holes.
A hat-trick of birdies then saw him turn in 31 and all of a sudden he was in a share of the lead with Flanagan and Scrivener, who made a birdie-birdie start.
An eagle on the par five next put Jager two ahead but he bogeyed the 11th to see his lead cut to one shot.
Hoey made a bogey-bogey start to sit six shots off the lead but recovered in style, birdieing the fifth and sixth, eagling the seventh and making another gain on the eighth to move into solo third.
The Northern Irishman made another birdie on the ninth to get into double figures before Scrivener birdied the 15th to share the lead.
Qualifying School graduate De Jager birdied the second, seventh, ninth and tenth in his first ten holes.
Fellow Q School graduates Daniel Gavins and Anton Karlsson, Challenge School graduate David Law, fellow Scotsman David Drysdale and Australian Matthew Griffin were out on the course at eight under.
