Scottish Senior Open returns to Craigielaw

The Scottish Senior Open, one of the Staysure Tour’s most established events, returns to Craigielaw Golf Club for the second successive season from August 16-18.

The 2019 event will be the 27thedition of the famous tournament, which has been won by several icons of the over-50s circuit, including Neil Coles, Tommy Horton, Brian Huggett and Sam Torrance.

Craigielaw Golf Club first hosted the event last year when Gary Orr battled the testing conditions on the final day to claim his first Staysure Tour victory and his first win in 18 years. By winning on home soil, Orr became the first Scot to triumph at the Scottish Senior Open since Torrance lifted the trophy in 2006.

The Helensburgh native carded rounds of 68-65-76, including a birdie on the 54thhole to seal victory ahead of playing partner Paul Streeter by one stroke. With confidence high following his win on home soil, Orr clinched his second title of the season at the Paris Legends Championship en route to an eighth-place finish on the Order of Merit.

The East Lothian venue will once again take centre stage when the Staysure Tour comes to town in August – the fourth of six British events on the 2019 Staysure Tour International Schedule.

Craigielaw will continue the recent trend of East Lothian clubs hosting the event, as Paul Broadhurst triumphed at Archerfield in 2015 before Paul Eales won at the same venue a year later, before Broadhurst grabbed his second Scottish Senior Open title at Renaissance Club in 2017 prior to Orr’s success last year.
