Scots battling it out in The Hague

Scottish pair Gordon Brand Jnr and Andrew Oldcorn are locked in a fascinating battle in the final of the Van Lanschot Senior Open, with both players tied on eight under par at the turn in The Netherlands.

Oldcorn, who is trying to win his maiden European Senior Tour title on his seventh appearance, had began the day with a two stroke lead but a bogey on the fourth hole saw that margin eroded to a single shot.

Former Ryder Cup player Brand Jnr, who had started three shots off the pace at The Royal Haagsche Golf and Country Club, then birdied the fifth hole and picked up another shot on the seventh to join him at the top of the leaderboard.

Brand Jnr has been in superb form recently, winning the Matrix Jersey Classsic before consecutive posting top ten finishes in Ireland, Wales and The De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship.

As most of The Netherlands prepares for the World Cup Final against Spain, the two Scots are gearing up for their own tense finale on the back nine, while in-form Paraguayan Angel Franco is also hoping to capture his own maiden triumph.

Franco has finished runner up seven times on the Senior Tour, including twice this season, and after a birdie on the first hole his chance looked to have elapsed after a double bogey five on the par three fourth hole.

However four birdies in five holes from the sixth moved him right back into contention, with Englishman George Ryall and Argentine Luis Carbonetti also striving to put pressure on the leaders.
