The victorious shot, the first of two that Schwartzel had contesting this month’s competition, claimed 34 per cent of the votes cast by My European Tour fans to take top spot.

Having pulled his tee shot down the left of the par four 17thhole at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC, the eight time winner on The European Tour showed great imagination and skill in hooking his ball low and round the trees in front of him before watching it release to just a few feet from the hole.

Thanks to a continuation of this kind of shot making throughout the rest of the week Schwartzel finished the event in second place, although that was still seven adrift of eventual champion, and compatriot, Richard Sterne.

This runner-up finish came on the back of his eighth European Tour victory in his previous outing at the Alfred Dunhill Championship which he won by 12 strokes back in December, and since then he has gone on to record a further top five finish at the Maybank Malaysian Open where he finished in a tie for fourth.

Schwartzel now joins January Shot of the Month winner Chris Wood in the running for the Shot of the Year prize, as he looks to emulate compatriot Louis Oosthuizen who won in 2012 thanks to his outrageous albatross during the final round of The Masters Tournament.

One lucky fan ofMy European Tourhas also earned themselves a £100 voucher for The European Tour shop for picking the winning shot, so make sure to register so you can cast your vote in the March competition that will be launched next month.
