There are pathways aplenty to the European Challenge Tour and one tried and tested avenue is that of the Alps Tour.

The Alps Tour is one of four satellite tours with a direct link into the Challenge Tour as the top five players on the respective Order of Merits get full cards on the Road to Mallorca the following year.

In 2021, Spain’s Jordi Garcia del Moral will be teeing it up on the Challenge Tour as the reigning Alps Tour Number One, having topped the Order of Merit in 2020 after winning once and securing five further top ten finishes in his nine starts.

The 35-year-old Spaniard triumphed at the Cervino Alps Open, carding rounds of 61-64-64 for a 15 under par total and a one-stroke victory from his nearest challenger, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli.

Garcia del Moral is no stranger to the Challenge Tour. He made his first appearance in 2007 and last played a substantial season in 2014 when he competed in 18 events.

Earlier in his career, he feared his career might have ended in 2009 when he tore ligaments in his left wrist hitting out of heavy rough, but eventually returned and won the sixth card at the 2011 Qualifying School Final Stage.

The Castellón native was introduced to the game by his father and had a successful amateur career, winning the Spanish Amateur International Championship and the French Amateur International Championship in 2006, the same year he represented Continental Europe in the St Andrews Trophy.

Garcia del Moral will be joined on the Challenge Tour in 2020 by fellow Alps Tour stars Lucas Vacarisas and Jeong Weon Ko, in addition to the five graduates from the 2019 Order of Merit.
