American Golfing legend Doug Sanders will make his professional comeback at this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship from August 9-12.

His short putt miss in The Open Championship in 1970  handed another major to Jack Nicklaus and he will renew rivalry with several other players from that battle, including Tony Jacklin CBE, Tommy Horton MBE & Maurice Bembridge who were all in the top places of the leaderboard that year.

This year’s Par 3 Championship has seen the winner’s prize money increase to £15,000 and has attracted not only former stars of the European Tour but a range of current stars including: Scott Jamieson, Graeme Storm, David Dixon, Marc Warren, Paul Broadhurst, Lee Slattery and Gary Boyd. There is an impressive roster of Senior Tour players featuring at Nailcote Hall including all time money list leader on the European Senior Tour Carl Mason, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and Gordon J Brand.

The Championship also welcomes 1992 US Senior Open winner Larry Laoretti as he makes his debut on the Cromwell course.

Sanders said “I am really looking forward to coming to the Par 3 Championship and meeting up with so many old pals, its sure going to be a lot of fun”

Host of the British Par 3 Championship Tony Jacklin has welcomed Doug’s participation in this year’s event.

He said: “With Doug taking part this year it really shows how the Championship has moved up another level and it will be great to see one of the true greats of the game at Nailcote Hall, with 20 PGA Tour titles to his name, I am positive Doug will be making sure he is in contention to win the Championship!”
