Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play day four - What they said

Adrian Otaegui won his first European Tour title with a dramatic 2 and 1 victory over Marcel Siem at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play.

Here, we take a look at what Siem and third-placed Johan Carlsson had to say after their final matches on Sunday.

Marcel Siem (beaten 2 and 1 by Adrian Otaegui in final)

"I was totally in control. I just had to keep on making birdies and pars. He didn't make any mistakes all day but I was pretty strong. My back nine, I hit a pretty bad chip on ten and a pretty bad chip on 11, gave him the chance to get back into the match otherwise I think it would have been a pretty short round. I lost my confidence through there. My back-swing on my putting got shorter and shorter and I couldn't get the ball to the hole. All week I played really solid but that's what I have to work on, I have to lengthen my back-swing, under pressure you tend to get shorter and I have a short back-swing anyway, that doesn't help. I ran out of steam a little bit as well. That's no excuse as everybody has to do that. I'm really upset, it's disappointing, it was right there on a silver plate for me today. There's nothing better than having a tournament win under your belt, having an exemption. Thomas Bjørn as the team captain for the Ryder Cup on my favourite golf course where I've won before, having an exemption under my belt, I would have had a chance to play in every tournament."

Johan Carlsson (beat Alejandro Cañizares 3 and 2 in 3rd/4th play-off)

"I'm probably a little bit inspired by Henrik (Stenson), he's probably the number one with three wood, but those shots were pretty good when I needed them the most. I felt good in the beginning and then in the middle I gave a few shots away and it got away from me a little bit. Then it's easy to get down on yourself but I managed to drain a few good ones. Eagle putts - I think I made three eagles today if you count that last one - it helps a bit with the momentum when you do that. I think this is my best finish ever if I'm not mistaken. I'm really happy with that. It's always nice to finish in the top five. I enjoyed it."
