Saint Omer set for enthralling finale

It was anyone’s game as the final group cleared the front nine in the Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open presented by Neuflize, after Simon Thornton relinquished his outright lead with a bogey at the ninth to allow Tjaart Van der Walt and Seve Benson to join him at the top.

Those three were tied at the top on four under par after Van der Walt, the overnight leader after every round at Aa Saint Omer Golf Club, followed up a double-bogey at the eighth with a birdie at the ninth.

That meant he was level par as he reached the turn, as was Thornton, while Seve Benson was one under through ten thanks to back-to-back birdies at the sixth and seventh holes.

Chris Lloyd had moved to four under par through the turn when he birdied the ninth to card a two under par front nine but his bogey at the tenth meant he slipped back to second place, a shot off the lead.

Jeppe Huldahl, meanwhile, was providing one of the stories of an enthralling final day in northern France as the Dane was four under through three holes thanks to a bogey at the second followed by a triple-bogey at the third.

But he rallied to card six successive birdies and climb to within just two shots of the top with five holes left to play.

Local favourite Baptiste Chapellan, in the final group, bogeyed the third and seventh holes to reach the turn in two over par, two under for the tournament and two shots back from his playing partners Van der Walt and Thornton, as well as Benson.
