Ryan Fox is a man of his word.
Less than two weeks on from Fox's beloved All Blacks losing to South Africa in the final of the Rugby World Cup, the consequences of the result were in evidence at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
The son of former All Blacks fly-half Grant Fox wore a Springboks jersey for three holes during Wednesday's Pro-Am at Sun City after losing a friendly bet over the outcome of the rugby showpiece with his caddie and coach.
If New Zealand had triumphed over their greatest rivals, Fox’s caddie - South African Smith - would have had to use a yardage book with an All Blacks cover for the rest of the year.
"This feels like blasphemy to me, to be honest," said Fox.
In a social media post, after copping the inevitable stick from Smith and coach Jamie Gough with humility, the World Number 27 wrote: “Had to honour the bet but this did hurt a lot."
Fox, who won his fourth DP World Tour title at the BMW PGA Championship in September, heads into the penultimate event of the 2023 DP World Tour season fourth on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex.
