Defending champion Brett Rumford and Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey joined Alvaro Quiros and Simon Dyson in a share of the lead as the second round of the Volvo China Open began.

Quiros and Dyson shared the first round lead on five under when Park Il-hwan and Alexander Levy parred the last hole of their opening rounds after fading light on Thursday forced them to spill into Friday.

Rumford, like Dyson looking to become the first player to win the event twice after 19 different winners, birdied the tenth – his opening hole.

Five-time European Tour winner Hoey also started on the back nine and kicked off with consecutive birdies to make it a four-way tie on five under.

Park, Levy, Spain’s Adrian Otaegui and English pair Tyrrell Hatton and David Horsey were all four under waiting to start their second rounds, and had been joined in a share of fifth by American Peter Uihlein, Spain’s Jorge Campillo and France’s Raphaël Jacquelin.
