Ignacio Garrido paved the way for a Ryder Cup debut with a four-stroke victory over Russell Claydon, which earned him his first European Tour win. The young Spaniard, a 1993 Challenge Tour graduate, led from start to finish, having shared the first round lead on 65 with Van Phillips, Rolf Muntz, and Mike Weir and then opening up a two-shot lead at the halfway stage and a five-shot lead going into the last round. He was never caught on his way to his winning 13-under-par 271 total.
