Rose and Westwood in contention

Lee Westwood and Justin Rose are the leading European challengers at the Honda Classic as Luke Guthrie claimed a one shot lead on an action-packed second day.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy had to withdraw midway through his round with pain in his wisdom teeth, the overnight leaders plummeted down the leaderboard and Tiger Woods barely made the cut.

Overnight leader Camilo Villegas signed for a 77 - after a 65 yesterday - that saw him miss the cut by one shot, a fate barely avoided by Woods who went round in 70 for the second straight day.

Guthrie emerged from the chaos with a one stroke lead ahead of Michael Thompson.

Guthrie carded an outstanding round of 63, five shots better than his opening effort.

"I was really hitting good, crisp shots, firing at flags, and I felt like I could have shot 5 under yesterday pretty quickly," Guthrie told the US PGA Tour website. "I was pretty excited to get back out here and kept it rolling."

Thompson went round in a five under 65 to sit one shot back, with Boo Weekley and Graham DeLaet - the only member of the group last night tied for second still in the top ten - joint-third one shot further back.

Westwood and Rose are part of a five-strong group on six under par.
