Rory McIlroy will host an evening in the company of Sir Alex Ferguson on behalf of his charitable foundation in Dublin next week.
An Evening with Rory brought to you by Newstalk, will see Rory take to the stage with Sir Alex at the Convention Centre Dublin on Tuesday May 17th. The evening will be hosted by award-winning actor and star of Sky’s Lucky Man, James Nesbitt, with all proceeds going to the Rory Foundation.
McIlroy will take to the stage to talk about his career to date, from hitting balls into his parent’s washing machine to turning professional in 2007. Other topics up for discussion on the night include Rory’s first professional win in Dubai in 2009, winning Majors, Ryder Cup victories, Rory’s setback in 2015 due to an ankle injury, his charitable work with the Rory Foundation and the upcoming Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.
“I’ve known Sir Alex for a few years now and really appreciate him and James Nesbitt giving up their time to spend an evening with me in Dublin to help us raise as much money as possible for the Foundation. Who knows what questions James will throw at us but we’ll be ready for them! I’m really looking forward to the night and to coming home to Ireland for a couple of days. It’s going to be a special week as my Foundation is once again hosting the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open,” said McIlroy.
Sir Alex Ferguson returns to the Convention Centre Dublin where he launched his autobiography in 2013.On the evening, he will be talking about his career highlights including being the most successful manager of all time at Manchester United. Other topics likely to be discussed include the 1999 treble winning season and Sir Alex’s thoughts on why it’s so important to give young players a chance.

Celebrities and sports stars are also expected to attend to support McIlroy.
The Rory Foundation was established in 2013 to help children live better lives, to raise funds and offer support to children’s charities with a special meaning and purpose for Rory. Beneficiaries of the Rory Foundation so far include the Cancer Fund for Children, Mencap NI and Sport Changes Life, all based in Northern Ireland.
The Rory Foundation will host the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open for the second year running from the 19th to the 22nd of May at The K Club and a percentage of tickets sold throughout the tournament will go directly to the Rory Foundation. Local charities in the Kildare/Dublin region will benefit from the proceeds. Those charities are Barretstown, Jack & Jill Foundation and LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
