Rory returns as Golfer of the Month for July

A spectacular birdie-birdie finish was just enough for McIlroy to clinch the title at the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.

The 34-year-old received the majority of the votes for Golfer of the Month presented by DP World with 68.9%.

With high winds slimming his chances, McIlroy pulled off a remarkable stinger 2-iron into the 18th on the final round to set-up an 11-foot putt for birdie that he proceeded to hole, a truly clutch finish to boost his confidence heading into The Open where he finished inside the top ten in a major championship for the third time this season.

McIlroy became the first player to win the Scottish Open, Irish Open and Open Championship. It was also his 16th win on the DP World Tour.

The Northern Irishman jumped back up to No.2 in the Official World Golf Rankings following his win.

In second place with 21.3% of the votes is Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre.

Just one week after a top-five finish at Made in HimmerLand, MacIntyre ended the Genesis Scottish Open in style, closing with a 64 in front of home crowds to hold a one-shot lead in the clubhouse.

The left-hander pushed his tee-shot on the 72nd hole into the left rough leaving himself a long way back into strong winds. Astonishingly, MacIntyre hit a 3-wood to just three feet for birdie to make his mark, only to be defeated by one to McIlroy.

As it stands, MacIntyre’s second-place finish at The Genesis Scottish Open boosts him into an automatic qualification spot for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Rounding-off the votes is Denmark’s Rasmus Højgaard, the winner of this year’s Made in HimmerLand.

The Dane became the first player to win on home soil in Denmark on the DP World Tour.

A 65 in round three, followed by a 64 on Sunday forced a playoff with Nacho Elvira. It was on the sixth play-off hole that the 22-year-old claimed his fourth DP World Tour title.
