The mini-documentary series presented by Official Partner Velocity Global charts the stories of different stars of the game of golf and the unique environments in which they grew up, as we travel to Ireland to visit Shane Lowry’s home, meet his family and hear first-hand about the down-to-earth upbringing that has made him the man he is today.
In this episode, Shane explains what his first win at the 2009 Irish Open at County Louth Golf Club on his Tour debut, meant to him and how it shaped the rest of his career, as he became just the third amateur to win on the DP World Tour. Shane describes how life-changing this early win was, as well as the ups and downs and periods of self-doubt which followed, and how becoming a father affected his outlook on life and the game of golf. A proud Irishman, Shane achieved his career highlight so far in front of a passionate crowd as well as a host of friends and family when he won the 148th Open Championship at Royal Portrush in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, before returning home with the Claret Jug to a hero’s welcome as people came from far and wide to celebrate his success.
We hear from Shane about his love for coming home and returning to his roots, and in particular the Offaly county football team. His personal connection to the club includes a rich history of family sporting talent with his father, Brendan, winning the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final with Offaly. We speak to Shane’s wife, parents, grandmother, coach and friends who have all supported him every step of the way, as well as visiting The Old Warehouse in Tullamore, a re-purposed Whiskey distillery that Shane has developed into a gastro-pub which opened this December.
