Roots is back with record breaker and Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam as she returns home to Bro, Sweden.
The mini-documentary series charts the stories of different stars of the game of golf and the unique environments in which they grew up, as we travel to Sweden ahead of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed tournament, a one-of-a-kind mixed event hosted by Annika.
In this episode, we visit her home, meet her family and hear first-hand about her upbringing, unrivalled career and the importance of her life away from the course and her legacy in the game.
Annika reveals how she used to deliberately lose golf tournaments to avoid speaking in front of an audience, until her parents stepped in to force her to speak in public regardless of the result so that she would overcome her fears, starting her on a path to success that surpassed anyone’s imagination. We hear how her first major victory, at the 1995 US Women’s Open, kickstarted the most successful career of all time, giving her the confidence to secure of 90 international victories and 11 Major Championships.
Despite all of her achievements on the course, Annika’s family and legacy are what means the most to her, describing her children Ava and Will as her “Grand Slam of life”. We speak to her parents, sister, husband, children and early coaches, as well as visiting an ANNIKA Foundation event in Halmstad Golf Club to see the visible effect of Annika’s impact on the game of golf, not just in Sweden but all over the world.
