Jake Roos blazed through the first 15 holes of round three at the Africa Open with eight birdies to take the outright lead in East London on 15 under par - one stroke clear of overnight leader Trevor Fisher Junior.
The Cape Town golfer, who carded a 68 and 71 in his first two rounds, was bogey free as he moved to eight under with three holes to play.
Fisher Jr, a leader since the co-sanctioned European and Sunshine Tour event began on Thursday, had only just begun his third round and was level par after four holes after he failed to find a similar start to the one he made yesterday when he eagled and birdied the first two holes.
Instead, he dropped a shot on the par five first, before pulling one back on the third to share second spot on 14 under with Thomas Aiken, two under after five.
Three players were a further stroke back - South Africans Jbe' Kruger and Keith Horne as well as Swede Patrik Sjoland, through nine, five and four holes respectively.
Dawie Van der Walt was the highest placed player to have completed his 18 holes, sharing 12 under with more than five men after coming around in 66 - by far his best round of the week after a 73 and 68.
Among that group was also Darren Clarke after the Northern Irishman, who was a runner-up in the competition in 2009, stormed to five under after 14 holes in what was an error-free day so far.
Pre-tournament favourites James Kingston, Richard Sterne and Charl Schwartzel were on 11 under, ten under and nine under respectively early in their rounds.
