Now into its seventh year, the Rolex Series has produced severable memorable feats on the DP World Tour.
This week sees the Genesis Scottish Open – held at The Renaissance Club for the fifth consecutive year – mark the third of five Rolex Series events on the 2023 DP World Tour schedule.
Here, we look at some of the records achieved since the Rolex Series was launched in 2017.
Most Rolex Series Victories
Jon Rahm claimed his fifth Rolex Series win at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last November.
It was also a record third victory for the Spaniard at the DP World Tour’s season-ending event, which sees the top 50 players on the Race to Dubai rankings compete. Previously, both Rahm and England’s Tyrrell Hatton had won four Rolex Series titles.
First ever Rolex Series winner
Alex Noren became the inaugural winner on the Rolex Series, claiming the BMW PGA Championship title at Wentworth in 2017.
Consecutive Rolex Series wins
Rory McIlroy became the first player to win back-to-back Rolex Series titles with his birdie-birdie finish to win the Genesis Scottish Open in July 2023. Having ended a lengthy wait for his first Rolex gold star with victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January, McIlroy then won the very next Rolex Series event six months later at The Renaissance Club.
Low 18 to par
There have been seven occasions where a player has shot a ten-under-par total.
Noren was the first to do so as he captured victory in style with a 62 at Wentworth in 2017, while Brandon Stone carded a 60 to equal the lowest round in Tour history (at the time) to win the Scottish Open at Gullane in 2018.
Since then, Robert Rock posted a 60 at the Irish Open in 2019, while Shane Lowry and Bernd Wiesberger shot a 62 and 61 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and Scottish Open respectively.
More recently, Rahm produced a brilliant final-round 62 at Wentworth to narrowly miss out on victory at the BMW PGA Championship in 2022, before Sami Välimäki went low with a 62 of his own earlier this season in Abu Dhabi during the final round at Yas Links.
Low 18
Both Stone and Rock had putts for a 59 on their way to their remarkable 60s in Scotland and Ireland respectively.
Tournament record score (Aggregate)
Stone carded rounds of 70-64-66-60 in 2018 to finish the week at 20 under and an aggregate tournament total of 260.
Tournament record score (To par)
Set at the Irish Open during the inaugural Rolex Series campaign in 2017, Rahm ended the week on 24 under par.
Biggest margin of victory
Rahm won his first DP World Tour title and first Rolex Series title by six strokes at the Irish Open at Portstewart in 2017.
Play-offs
There have been nine occasions where a play-off has been required to determine the winner, with four of those happening at the Scottish Open – the most of any Rolex Series event.
Most appearances
Jordan Smith is the most prolific participant in Rolex Series events, with this week’s BMW PGA Championship his 40th appearance over the years.
