There are storylines galore at this week’s Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A and therefore the final three to watch of the 2022 Road to Mallorca contains three players with varying goals at Club de Golf Alcanada.
Form horse – Jeremy Freiburghaus
Jeremy Freiburghaus is the man in possession of the Number One Spot on the Road to Mallorca Rankings heading into the Rolex Grand Final and he is aiming to become the first Swiss player to be crowned Challenge Tour Number One. The 26-year-old has enjoyed an incredibly consistent season which has included numerous top tens, one of which was a play-off defeat to Javier Sainz in Scotland, before securing his maiden title in England two weeks ago. This time, came out on top in a play-off – defeating Max Schmitt – to climb to the top of the Rankings with just one final event to play. He is the man to catch.
Solid bet – Euan Walker
Euan Walker, the only Scotsman in the field this week, arrives at Club De Golf Alcanada in 21st position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings after an impressive 2022 season. The 27-year-old catapulted up the Rankings after securing a maiden Challenge Tour title at the British Challenge presented by Modest! Golf Management towards the end of the season and he now looks in good stead to break into the top 20 and secure DP World Tour playing rights for 2023.
Long shot – Benjamin Rusch
Swiss players bookend this week’s 45-man field, with Freiburghaus at the top and countryman Benjamin Rusch the 45th and last man in. Rusch, like his compatriot, has been relatively consistent in 2022 but, unlike Freiburghaus, has been unable to break into the top ten on a regular basis. That means he arrives at Club de Golf Alcanada this week as the man with the longest shot of claiming a spot in the top 20, but it is not impossible. Every single player in the field can, mathematically, graduate this week but for Rusch to do so, it would have to be a stand-out week – only a win or a solo second would do it for the Swiss.
